Casa Palomeque is located in the center of Merida, in the picturesque Centro zone. It is near many of the popular tourist areas, such as Paseo Montejo and the Historic Center, in which you can find some of the top restaurants and cafes as well as visit museums, cathedrals, and parks. It’s also an area full of hotels, B&Bs, and Airbnbs.

Merida is a great starting point for many near-by day trips. Within 30-60 minutes, you can visit historical haciendas (Spanish plantations) and cenotes (giant sink-holes filled with water). There are also 2,000-year-old Mayan ruins you can visit. The coast is also nearby with many beautiful beaches to explore. To go to these places, we would recommend either individual tours or renting a car (better option) during your stay.

If you want to go a little further, there is a pretty colonial town called Valladolid you can stay in, which is near Chichen Itza, one of the Wonders of the World. Also, Cancun is about a 3-4-hour drive or an hour and a half train ride away if you’re wanting a Caribbean experience. Valladolid is the halfway point between Merida and Cancun, so it could be a nice stop.

If you’re not renting a car, using apps like Uber and Didi are easy and pretty affordable. If you’re in Paseo Montejo, fares might be around $70 MXN (~$4 USD). If you’re more in Centro, the fares are around $40 MXN (~$2.35 USD). Just keep in mind that fares can vary depending on the time of day and the amount of traffic, as well as your specific location.

Car Rental: If you’re going to stay for a few days, we recommend renting a car as it’d be much easier to visit a variety of places, such as the beach, ruins, magic towns, and cenotes.
